"Eye of the Tiger" was the theme song for the film Rocky III, which was released a day before the single. The song was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik and was done so at the request of Rocky III star, writer, and director Sylvester Stallone.

According to Billboard, this was the #1 song of 1982. This was also used in Rocky IV, where Rocky takes on the Russian boxer Ivan Drago. Once again, Stallone asked Survivor to write the theme song. They came up with "Burning Heart."
