The original lyrics included a verse that read "Now that we've grown up together/They're all taking drugs with me". It changed to "They're afraid of what they see" because worried that it would not get played on the radio.

The song was featured in the 2000 film, American Psycho and played during the nightclub scene and also appeared on the soundtrack for the 1988 film, Bright Lights, Big City.
